Frequently Asked Questions

Does it hurt to get an embryo transferred?

The transfer is not painful. If you ever had a pap smear, the process is very similar. A thin catheter is inserted through your cervix and the embryo is placed in the uterus.

Am I eligible to be a surrogate if I am a single mother?

Of course! The answer is yes, as long as you have your own support and trusted group of friends or relatives who can assist you through this wonderful process.

Can I still be a surrogate if my tubes are tied?

The embryo transfer only requires the use of your uterus, so you can still apply to be a surrogate if you have a tubal ligation.

Is it possible to apply to be a surrogate while I am breastfeeding?

You can absolutely be breastfeeding to apply, however you can't appear in our database. Once you have already stopped breastfeeding, we'll activate your profile.

Do I have to wait long after my delivery to apply to be a surrogate?

After a vaginal delivery, you must wait 3 months.
If you had a C-Section, you need to wait a full year.

Will I need to take medications during the IVF process?

Yes, depending on the IVF clinic and the doctor, the protocols are different. Regularly you'll need some vitamins, birth control pills, and some hormones (tablets, patches, vaginal tablets, suppositories and injections).

As a surrogate, is my DNA passed to the baby?

Not at all. The egg that gets implanted has 100% DNA and genetics from the parents or egg donor. Thus, the baby will only have their DNA.

If I get to be a surrogate, do I need to stop having sexual intercourse?

As a surrogate, carriers need to be willing to abstain from sexual intercourse for at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the embryo transfer. This is a general guideline besides the specific instructions from the IVF clinic.

Is a surrogate biologically related to the child she carries?

The surrogate's eggs are NEVER used, so the baby is NOT related in any way biologically or genetically to the surrogate. At Enjoying Surrogacy we only work with gestational surrogates. In this process, the eggs and sperms for the resulting embryo come from the aspiring parents and/or donors. This means the baby is ONLY related genetically to its parents.
